Moments

According to the dictionary, a moment is described as “a very short period of time” but don’t you think it is much more than that? Anyways, to me it is. A moment might be a period of time, but it’s an important one, it is a something you remember, something you define to be your own, it’s an instant of pure joy or deep sadness, it’s a second where you take a step back to realize what you are feeling and why you are feeling that way. Today, I finished another chapter. Next year, university awaits and the page will turn. But today, I took a step back to recognize how lucky I was to have lived two quite amazing years with people I love. No matter how many times I complained about the tests and the early schedules, I truly am grateful for the times I’ve spent there, for the smiles I’ve encountered, for the parties I danced all night at, and for the deep talks I took part in. Those were moments and …

Just Write It All Down

I had the opportunity to create my own personal mission statement for one of my classes in college. It is pretty simple: write about you, your values and what you want to achieve. I’m going to leave mine here to serve as an example. I hope you enjoy. All I want, all I really want is to cry when I need to. Love with all my heart. Sleep when I’m tired. Eat when I’m hungry but stop when I’m full. Listen more. Create, innovate, discover. Realize that something new is not always something better. Realize that some friends are forever and others are meant to let go. Realize how truly lucky I am. Realize that some days are just better than others. Realize that it is always possible to better myself. Live in the present moment and cherish every day. All I want is to say I love you to my parents more often and call my grandparents more because you never know what could happen. Take care of my body. Listen to my body. …

I Found Someone

I found someone nice, I found someone loving, I found someone who looks at me and says that I’m beautiful, I found someone that I love but most of all, I found someone that makes me happy every single day.   We were together in high school when we were young and immature. I moved away and we slowly drifted apart. Seeing each other less and talking rarely was now part of our routine. Therefore, we decided to let it go and move on.  We went our separate ways, saw different people and talked occasionally reminiscing on beautiful moments we had together. We slowly started to reconnect and decided to get together. We would hang out but it was never the same as before but we would not mention it. One unexpected day, there was a click. The awkwardness drifted away and it felt like the good old days and we did decide to mention that. We continued to get together and eventually feelings redeveloped.   At first, I was hesitant and I did not know if …

From a Daughter

Hello to all you beautiful people. I wanted to take this month’s column to talk about someone who is very important to me and I am hoping it is someone who is very important to you too. Let me give you a hint: she does the work of twenty for free out of love. She held your hand for a while but only holds your heart now. She is always right no matter how much you do not want her to be and she loves you unconditionally. You probably guessed it, this column is to talk about mothers and the inevitable role they play in our day to day lives. There is an infinite number of things that our mothers have done for us and it is easy to take those things for granted. We must truly realize that we are extremely lucky to have someone who will always be there. She has been there since the beginning and she has given you life, love, and affection. She let you go for your first day …

Stop Wishing, Start Living

I decided to do something a little different for this month’s column. I wrote a short poem, something I have never done before. It was interesting to try something new. Perhaps letting go of my emotions through a poetic piece of writing somehow feels liberating. Enjoy. I am a child filled with emotion a girl full of dreams someone who watches the ocean as if it were able to scream scream the truth about the future wondering if it’ll get any better better than now better than this even though now isn’t so bad there’re even some moments of bliss maybe I have to stop being sad stop the wait and take every moment to appreciate appreciate what I have and what I can do life passes by so fast if only you knew we keep wanting something more it makes it easy to miss an open door one too many expectations constantly seeking perfection we always wind up sad or upset the memories we must forget what is to come? we don’t know …

For U

Our busy schedules have officially begun, our typical morning routines have now taken over and our cups of coffee have now become our life savers. Everyone is just always on the go. With school, work, sports, events etc. it is extremely hard to find some extra time for anything else. And when you do find some space in your calendar, you immediately fill it with a supper or a party with friends. Time is gold in our society and we seem to do something every second in order to not lose any of it. Let me tell you a secret, when you do nothing for a moment, you are not wasting time, you’re appreciating it. I believe that one of the most important things in life is to take time for yourself. To be alone and completely let go of any stress you are living. To lay in bed and think. To reflect on yourself, on your values, your beliefs and your accomplishments. To lay there and appreciate the wonders of loneliness. People don’t always …

High School…

Let me tell you, it’s one hell of a ride. Through my experience, I have learnt so much about others and myself. I have found who I am and who I want to be. It has helped me discover the values I believe in, the friends that deserve my time and the things that truly matter in life. I am not saying I have it all figured out or that I know where I’ll be in 20 years from now. What I’m saying is that high school is an adventure. An adventure filled with risks to take, choices to make and obstacles to overcome. It is a journey where the destination is unsure. It is a moment in your life where you have the opportunity to try new things and live a little. Trust me when I say that high school is not easy. Friend problems, grade problems, stress, anxiety… You start questioning yourself about who you are or who you should be. “Am I pretty enough?” “Am I smart enough?” “Am I good enough?” You start …
