Hello Dear Autumn

September is here which means autumn is here as well. Personally, I couldn’t be happier. I have always been more of a fall/winter person than a summer person. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoy those late summer nights and eating dinner outside but for me, there is just something nostalgic and magical about autumn. The way you’re putting layers upon layers because the days are getting colder. How the leaves change from green to golden colors like red, yellow, brown and orange. Hot drinks instead of the longing for cold water on a warm day.  Shorter days and longer nights. I love everything there is to love about fall and everything it has to offer. The leaves haven’t changed their colors yet but hopefully, they will soon. In the meantime I can make up a list about every autumn related thing, I’m going to do for the next months. Music is something that makes fall extra special, and there is nothing more relaxing than listening to a chill playlist while going for a walk or …

That First Night

Listen to: To Build A Home by The Cinematic Orchestra. Moving away for school is a scary thought in and of itself. But moving halfway around the world for school is downright petrifying. You would think that being in a brand new place, where you could reinvent yourself a thousand times over, would be a liberating feeling. The feeling you had been searching for since you were fifteen and had pre-emptively decided that you were an adult before you even knew how to drive a car. But that first night, when your parents have just taken off to catch their flight back home, and your roommate has yet to move in, will feel anything but peaceful. Regardless of the ocean splashing along the shores in the background and the beautiful city you overlook from your bedroom window, that night might well be the hardest moment of your life to date. You’ll be terrified, and your throat might feel like you can’t get enough air into your body to form coherent sentences when you say goodbye …

The Stories We’ll Tell

Listen While Reading: Closer by Chainsmokers ft. Halsey.  It’s that time of year again when summer is coming to a close and we all have to slip back into reality. When we have to trade booze filled summer nights in the city and long car rides with throwback songs blasting through the stereo in the background for library cubicles and caffeine-infused all-nighters. But somewhere in the chaos of attempting to be real people again, you’ll reminisce about the guy you had a thing with for a month back in July and how this summer was going to be one for the books (because what summer isn’t?). How we laid on the hood of your dad’s car in an abandoned parking lot in the middle of the night, pointing out constellations that were probably wrong and pretending we knew more then what we read on the Internet about global affairs. The phrase ‘fake it til you make it’ had never been so true. We’ll look at the Polaroid pictures we drunkenly took and then found again …

Words From An Introvert

Listen While Reading: Sleep Apnea // Beach Fossils. I am normally not a big fan of people being put into categories of who they are and who they’re not. You are who you are and that should not be defined by one single word. But sometimes a label can help us explain whom we are to help us understand who we are. There are no right or wrong, or this or that. There is so much more to a person than a word but sometimes you just have a lot of trait from a label and therefore it’s easier to just put yourself into a category without actually realizing it. During the last few years, I seem to have learned a thing or two about myself. One of them being I am not the most social person and the second thing is that I am totally okay with that. Don’t get me wrong, I love spending time with my friends and there is nothing better than laughing and sharing secrets with them. But I also …

City Dates

Listen While Reading: Paris // The 1975. Recently, my friend Lauren and I decided to spend a day wandering the streets of Toronto. Of course, when you’re in a city as large and diverse as Toronto, there are a plethora of places you can discover by simply walking down the street for ten minutes. Though we walked for quite a bit longer than ten minutes, we found some amazing places that we’ll definitely be returning to this summer. While getting our fill of exercise walking around the city without a set plan of where we wanted to go, we stumbled upon a few hidden gems of our own. Here are a few of the places we found while walking around the city. Black Market Located at 256 Queen Street West, this vintage store is perfect for people on a budget. With everything priced at ten dollars or less, the store offers a wide range of clothing for every type of style. It also provides both vintage and store printed t-shirts, which creates a nice mix …

How to Channel Your Inner Bohemian

Listen While Reading: From The Sun // Unknown Mortal Orchestra. When you hear the word bohemian, what comes to mind? Perhaps you think of flowy skirts and wrap headbands, or maybe it’s girls with long tangled hair and paintbrushes. Those descriptions are true of what bohemians have been commercialized to be, but in reality, a bohemian is anyone who allows themselves to be freed from social norms, embracing their creativity and artistic style. A bohemian lifestyle is both freeing and beautiful, and it is certainly worth striving for. While I am nowhere near achieving the frame of mind and creative outlook I personally desire, incorporating bohemian vibes into my style, decor, mindset and life in general, has brought me closer to it and it has opened my eyes to things I had never thought of before. “Going boho” however, isn’t always the easiest thing to do. It can take time and effort, and even a little sacrifice. So how do you channel your inner bohemian? Below are five distinct tips that have helped me; although …
