The Perfect Coffee Shop Experience

If I could spend the rest of my afternoons tucked inside a coffee shop with a latte and a book, I would in a heartbeat. Coffee shops are my second home; I feel most content in this tranquil environment with the soothing aroma of rich espresso filling the air around me.

Going to a coffee shop is an experience and I’m here to tell you how to make the most of it.

Ask the barista for his/her recommendation

Every coffee shop has their own specialty or a unique concoction that they’re known for. If you want to get the most out of your visit, I recommend trying that beverage. Reward your palate with a tasteful, rich espresso beverage the way it’s supposed to be enjoyed (for example, a shot of espresso is meant to be enjoyed on its own, without any added sugar).

Try a pastry with your beverage

Whether I’m hungry or not, I always order a pastry that compliments my beverage, even if I just nibble at it and save the rest for later. A pain au chocolat pairs well with a cappuccino and pound cake compliments a cup of tea. Just like with beverages, many coffee shops have a specific pastry that they’re known for. Give it a try!

Sit at a table in the middle of the coffee shop

Sitting at a table in the middle of the coffee shop will allow you to take in your surroundings and experience the true atmosphere of the café. Notice the aesthetics, the style of music playing in the background, the decorations, the furnishings, the people. Take it all in. Notice how you belong.

Make yourself at home: chat with a stranger, read, write, etc.

Make yourself at home while you sip on a creamy latte and decadent pastry. Smile at a stranger and ask them what book they’re reading or drink they’re sipping on. Make a new friend. If you’re more introverted like me, make yourself at home by staying in your comfort zone: read a book, journal, finish your homework, write a note to a friend, etc. Take your time and don’t feel rushed. Coffee shops are meant to be a tranquil escape.

Take a piece of the coffee shop with you

Many coffee shops sell mugs, thermoses, their own packaged coffee beans, or various trinkets. If you enjoyed your time at the coffee shop, I recommend taking a piece of it home with you before you leave.
