I’m a Feminist

Feminist: advocating equal social, political, legal, and economic rights for women and men.

I’m a feminist

I’m a feminist because

my body is sexualized and sold

in every corner

but don’t I care show it off myself.

I’m a feminist because

the amount of sex that I have

determines my worth

and self-respect.

I’m a feminist because

my clothes have more of

an impact than my words

and after all “i was asking for it”.

I’m a feminist because

my ultimate goal in life

is motherhood and marriage

and my career should always come second.

I’m a feminist because

when you do something like “a girl”

it means you do it poorly since

weak and passive are female traits.

I’m a feminist because

when I’m being assertive and opinionated

I must cut it off because

it makes me bossy and “a bitch”.

I’m a feminist because

I should downplay my intelligence

in the first date for

it’s threatening and off-putting.

I’m a feminist because

I no longer want my underqualified

male colleague to be paid

more than I am.

I’m a feminist because

I was taught not to trust other women

as they are my enemies and competitors,

backstabbing and untrustworthy

I’m a feminist because

only 14% of CEO

and 22% of parliament positions

are held by women.

I’m a feminist because

every year 15 million young girls

are forced into marriage,

robbed of their childhood.

I’m a feminist because

we teach girls to be always be cautious

instead of teaching boys not to do

the things we don’t want happening to our girls.

I’m a feminist because

we teach boys to hide

their sensitivities and feelings

unless they want their masculinity questioned

I’m a feminist because

male rape victims are frowned upon

because as a man you’re supposed

to enjoy sex no matter the circumstance.

I’m a feminist because

I crave for the day

I’ll wake up and won’t be treated

based on my sex.

I’m a feminist because

I demand equality and

after all that isn’t

such an irrational thing to ask.
