The Art of Not Caring What People Think About You

A lot of people, including myself, spend too much time worrying about what others think about them. Let’s face it, life is too short to care what other people think about you. I know it’s difficult to ignore those unpleasant thoughts, but it’s possible.

  1. Try to be more confident – This one is easier said than done. Being confident doesn’t happen over night, it takes weeks, months or even years. Start with the small things, stand straight, smile a bit more and try to be proud of yourself. If you’re wearing an outfit you don’t feel comfortable in, you tend to show that. Other people can tell that you’re a bit insecure about it and might target you in order to feel better about themselves. If you start wearing the clothes you like and feel comfortable in, you will look more confident and people won’t feel the need to judge you. Smiling is a great confidence booster.  If you smile more often, people will have positive thoughts about you, instead of negative thoughts you might think they have. You are a star in the universe and you should be shining proudly.
  2. See things in a different light – You probably worry a lot about how other people see you. You automatically think that others look at you the way you look at yourself. But they don’t. They don’t see the flaws you might see when you look in the mirror. Keep that in mind if you worry about that spot on your forehead. People you see on the streets are probably just as conscious about their appearance as you are and won’t be judging you. “How others see you, is not important. How you see yourself, means everything.”  I stumbled upon this quote yesterday and I honestly think it’s the only thing that matters. If you’re happy with the person you are, people can judge you, but it won’t get to you.  At the end of the day, people care more about themselves than they care about others.
  3. You can’t please everyone – You simply can’t live up to everyone’s expectations, so naturally there will always be people who judge you. That’s okay because you can stop it from affecting you. Nothing will happen if people judge you, it’s just a thought they have and they won’t come up to you and confront you with their problem. When you think about it, it is quite logical because you don’t like every person you meet either. So, relax and think about the fact that it’s probably all in your head. You should be living life to the fullest and not care about opinions of others because it’s your life and your happiness!
